In Memorium: Jay Bennett

Hello.
We have not hid our love for Wilco. And there was a major loss in the Wilco family this week with the passing of Jay Bennett. Certainly his disagreements with the band were well documented in I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, but it does not at all detract from his contributions to the albums that are thus far considered to be the band's highwater mark.

Thanks to Harn (aka the Outlaw Egghead Monitor) for suggesting a rememberance. In honor of Mr. Bennett, we've elected to feature a rowdy rocker demonstrating his talent rather than lamenting his early loss. Co-written with John Striatt from his last album

The BPA (Brighton Port Authority) is one of many of Norman Cook's nom de plumes, the most famous of which is Fat Boy Slim. His song, "Toe Jam", is one of our favorites from last year featuring the ubiquitous David Bryne and Dizzie Rascal. Perhaps not to be viewed at work due to its scandalous nature. Totally censored, still scandalous.

April Redux

Probably something missed from the old version of Punk' N Center (if anyone was downloading the files then getting around to listening to them) was the monthly new music recaps. We actually had one prepped for April, but never got around to completing the deed. Therefore we shall intermittently be posting some choice selections from that month. If you haven't heard it, then its still new, right?

Felice Brothers came out with an album in April. Here's a foot-stomper from Yonder is the Clock called "Penn Station".

We were lucky to see this band out of Brooklyn in action called the Woes. Great ensemble, raucous horns, good energy. You can check them out here and get their new album on iTunes starting May 21st.

We're back! And different!

Hello.
Punk' N Center is returning to the internet. A long hiatus due to busy times here at headquarters.

And over said break we did some soul searching on the content of the Unincorporated, realizing that the format under which we launched just was not a formula for longevity. Our desire to create a mp3 consciousness will be dropped. Instead we will sacrifice the art of the mix-tape for frequency of posts, links to interesting sites/songs/videos, rather than large files which you might not listen to. This is much more reflective of the typical blog, which has developed for a reason. We understand now internet.

Sorry to be gone for so long. Please watch this video of Elvis Perkins in Dearland performing their song Doomsday. Their new album is fantastic.



We had the real pleasure of watching them perform this in Knoxville on Saturday night. Great show.
